| “Together
we will explore the possibility of learning to be open when we desire
to close down, to face with honesty and caring attention what is
unwanted and what we habitually reject in ourselves and others,
to be present to others and join with them when we want to move
away.”

In-depth
psychotherapy working with the total person in an environment of
trust and support that respects and affirms privacy and autonomy.
ARE YOU SUFFERING?
In her book Pilgrim at Tinker Creek*, Annie Dillard remarks
that life is like stepping on a rake--its education by ninety degrees.
Sadly, most of us step on that rake again and again, and so, we
continue to suffer.
Therapy can be about moving from suffering to engagement with life,
from being on auto-pilot to being fully alive, present, and committed.
Rather than being passive, waiting to overcome the internal struggle
with yourself so that life can begin, you can learn how to be live
now and fully—with (not in spite of) a difficult past, with
sometimes negative memories, with fears, with sadness, and with
physical illness and chronic pain. You can transform your suffering
into happiness and well-being.
Want
to change an unwanted behavior? Want to avoid destructive emotions?
You can learn to approach life’s challenges with compassion
and wisdom.
Living
a life free from negativity is easier than you think—if you
can skillfully learn to face whatever comes your way and know how
not to get “hooked” by difficulty. There is a way to
be free from destructive emotions and unwanted behavior and to find
ease. Through harnessing the power of attention and learning to
develop compassion, you can learn to conquer depression, anxiety,
ADD, stress-related conditions of all sorts, and chronic pain.
By
learning to pause and open to life as it is without judgment, you
can be enabled to skillfully choose new ways to be with your self,
other people, and your world.
Underlying
the therapeutic work I do is a valuing of mindful awareness of thoughts,
feelings, and bodily sensations and the practice of loving-kindness
as a way to transform problems into happiness.
